F150 stereo upgrade 2011 with sync
I had dozens of mini USB Cables and only had to buy a female to female USB adaptor for $7.00 from Radio Shack. 10 minute job and my ipod is now hidden out of sight. Worked like a charm on my 2012 F150 Harley Davidson with Navigation/Sync. You can purchase a very small 32g thumb drive and put all your music on it and play it with sync never having to leave your phone or mp3 in truck. Both the Sync's USB2 and my hardrive use USB mini B 5-pin male to mini B 5-pin male. I just installed the USB2 so I could put my harddrive in the glove box. I just made this modification on my 11' F150 to the USB2 port and Sync see's USB-1 & USB-2 either by voice command or by touching the screen to toggle between USB Ports. Worked great and now my IPod stays in the glovebox out of sight. It now skips over the USB option and goes right to usb2. As soon as I plugged in my IPod, the radio picked up the usb2 right away. I used this Mod in my 2010 F150 Platinum with Nav. Newbie : 1 terabyte HD loaded with music is there a way to get the sync to recognize the hadrdrive via USB without it being a mp3 or Ipod?.CDS : How to add a second USB connectionĭoes it matter if you have the Sony or the Ford stereo? Do they all have the second USB outlet?.Hey guys can you point me to an article that explain how to remove the dash tray? In my case i had to change the cable one time and then it worked perfectly. Some cables won't work for the "data" transfers but will charge the hard drive. The Unit did not recognize my Zune MP3 Player or a 8gb Thumb Drive when Plugged into the 2nd Port.

I tried this 2nd USB Port Mod on my 2010 F-150 Platinum and it didn't work. harley-earl : Didn't work on 2010 F-150 Platinum. Keywords: ford f150 sync second usb port cable module easy diy User Comments Other SYNC discussions in the F150 forums Available voice-activated SYNC 3 is responsive with simplified music search and a capacitive touchscreen to help keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road. UPDATE: A note from thefordmaniac to be aware of: "in regards to this article.if i remember correctly.that second port is used by the dealer for sync module software updating.so if it needs to go to the dealer for an update this second cable needs to be removed or the dealer told about it or a female adapter brought along so they can communicate to the module." Of the truck ever, and I can now hide it either in the glovebox, or tucked up I pressed the voice button and said USB2, and there It detected a new device on USB2Īnd proceeded to index it. Tested it out and it works great, I hooked up a 16 GB USB thumb drive (I neededĪ female to female adapter) filled with music. Test it out and if it works great, put the top of the dash back together. The wire easily rests in the glovebox for access. I dropped the wire down into the right side of the hole, and grabbed it from Here is a photo of it connected, with the other end of the cable shown for reference: Next, plug in a mini-USB wire to the grey port, Sync references it as USB2. Liner, remove the two 7mm bolts on the plastic tray, and you'll see the module. and I am not sure a 3db increase in SPL by doubling the sub drivers will make that much difference either, but I will see what it does and go from there. To access the module, go under the tray on top on the dash, pull up the rubber It probably won't be all that noticeable. My thinking is I will have a little more volume per sub in this box, so it should extend a little lower in the frequency range. although I am not sure how much polyfill I had in it. 31ft³ box gross volume (.23ft³ net) and stuffed with polyfill. The dual sub setup is going to be very limited in box volume, yet the single sub I had in the 07 ST sounded pretty good in a. There might be a slightly higher increase since the box is a tad smaller than. 620 (estimating about a 30% increase in volume). If my calculations are right with polyfill: I will try to remember to take pics as I go.

and I want to try something different in the Platinum. I left Massive CK6 components in the ST because of the modification I had to do to install them. From that system I have a JL Audio HD900/5 amp and one Sundown SD-2 10 D4 subwoofer, of which I have ordered another to have dual 10's. I haven't long installed a system in my 07 Explorer Sport Trac, which I will be selling before too much longer.

Dual Sundown Audio SD-2 10" D4 Subwoofers (Custom Box).JL Audio HD900/5 Amp (Active on Fronts).as well as take the factory sub out and install dual 10's. I will keep the factory head unit and replace the front speakers. I have a 2010 F-150 Platinum Supercrew with the Sony system, Nav and SYNC. I guess is makes me feel younger piddlin' around with it. You would think at 50 years old I would grow out of the DIY car audio installs and either be happy with the factory system or at least let a car audio shop do it for me. although it won't be near as fancy as most of the other builds here.
